Whenever a department writes the specifications for a new apparatus, part of the process should be to look at apparatus being delivered to other departments around the country. What are they specifying? Why did they select a particular chassis or component? How do they feel about their choices now that the apparatus are delivered?

Annex D: Refurbish or Replace?

NFPA 1901's Annex D addresses the issues involved in all-too-common aging fire apparatus in the United States, especially those built before the 1991 edition of the standard. A new program cosponsored by Fire Chief magazine and FETN offers insight for fire officials.
